This story is about my recent experience at Kinkos Copies 3200 South Louise Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57106 (605) 362-0030 while I was away from home on a trip to attend my Aunt's funeral.

Thursday night I had passed by the Kinkos store after shopping at WAL-MART for some much needed items. I noticed that Kinkos had this big sign on the front of their store and was quite lit up and open at Midnight.

After the Funeral on Friday (in Watertown, 100 miles north) I proceeded back to my hotel room in Sioux Falls, changed clothes, took a shower, grabbed up my computer and stuff and at 9:00PM Friday evening headed off to the 24 hour Kinkos to play on the internet for awhile.

Imagine how disgusted I was to find that the store was dark and locked and that only someone approaching the door to the store would discover that to STINKOS the idea of "OPEN 24 HOURS" really means:

Well I decided to return on Saturday on my way out of town to check e-mail and weather reports so I could decide what route I wanted to take driving home. After I was done spending my money in their automated internet access terminal (they didn't complain a bit about that) I decided to have a chat with the person "apparently in charge" at the time.

I told Tom (whose name I learned only after receiving the e-mail below) that to advertise OPEN 24 HOURS on their sign and on the front of their building was FALSE ADVERTISING and MISLEADING if they intended to close the store 3 nights per week.

While I was in the store I notified him that it was my intention to place this information on my website http://crappycompanies.com/ and that he should relay that information to his manager.
He replied:  "We ARE open 24 hours during the week"
I replied that "FRIDAY is a weekday" before I turned and walked out.

I don't know exactly what Kinkos should do perhaps make their signs say something like:

"OPEN 24 HOURS ON CERTAIN DAYS"
or
"OPEN 24 HOURS WHEN WE FEEL LIKE IT"

Indeed the sign from Walgreens next door is pictured below and when I inquired of Walgreens  "When do you close?"
The manager I spoke to there told me "Never."

When I asked him "What about Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years?" he replied "We never close.

I think that it is a pity that Kinkos, a nationwide multi-million dollar company,  cannot be as reliable as Walgreens when advertising "OPEN 24 HOURS"

When I got home from my funeral trip I found this e-mail:

Subject:  your an asshat
Date:      Sat, 11 Oct 2003 18:09:39 -0500
From:     "Tom Gambrel" <tomgam@sio.midco.net>
To:         <webmaster@crappycompanies.com>

"Webmaster,"
You should do a website called crappycustomers.com. If you did that, you could actually put your picture on it and get the credit for it you want/need. You are a very rude, and im going to guess uneducated man, by the way you handle yourself.
You should find something better to do with your time then try to be a "consumer advocate", because your not, you
just need a vent to bitch.
By the way, this is the most prehistoric website I have seen in all my years of surfing the net.

Tom

I figured that this e-mail could only be from one place so I picked up the phone and dialed (605) 362-0030 with the intention of inquiring if Kinkos employed a Tom Gambrel. I didn't have to do much inquiring as it was Tom that answered the phone.

The thing that I wonder is did little Tommy boy give my information to his manager or did he just decide to take matters into his own hands?   I guess maybe I'll find out if I ever hear from Tom or his manager again.

By the way Tom, could you tell me what exactly an "asshat" is?   And speaking of "uneducated" I would like to point out that the contraction for "I am" is spelled "I'm". I sincerely hope that this helps in the furtherance of your education.

SO, now Tom writes me again.... This time THREATENING ME that he's going to make certain information public...

Sad part is that ANY MORON can do a whois lookup on this site and a quick inquiry into the phone book so Tommy boy,
I guess I'll beat you to it!
